Last weekend a few of us went to Tobacco Road, where Miami's oldest bar hosted the first annual "Tomato Throwing" event. The event is usually held in Spain. While the pictures below show some images of the Tomato festivities I was in my element discovering a few random wall murals. My favorite one has to be the crazy wall next to the run down Nail bar.

Thrift Store Haul Preview

Friday I managed to squeeze in a big thrift store spree during lunch, my plan is to actually do a shoot with the bits and pieces I brought but I had to post a quick preview as this weeks delivery of goodies was particularly juicy.

This evening it was chilly enough in Miami to wear my new thrifted sweater. It's made in the USA from Lambs wool and is decorated with gold beads and metallic chain stitch. I also wore my platform Brogues which I found in a small market store in Hong Kong.

The Pineapple and the Cat? They're small, gold and came with a chocolate inside.

Today before it started to pee it down with rain, I had a quick browse around the Antique Market which is open every Sunday on Lincoln in Miami. They sell everything from shoes and clothing to furniture and vintage posters. Below is a collection of some of my favourite pieces.

90's Nails

I haven't posted any nails for a while, I'm really into 90's patterns right now so here you go.

For these I used colours I picked up in a store called Sasa, the Hong Kong CVS or Superdrug depending on the country you reside. A bargain at only a $1 per bottle and the polish gives good coverage. I used a 'dabbing' technique for the multicolored nails and the rest are hand painted with a fine brush.

BLOG SHUTDOWN! After a few weeks back home in London I flew to China for work. The Chinese government are strict with what websites people can use so I've been living life for a week without Facebook, You Tube and Blogger. To fill in the time I usually spend on all three of those sites I actually did the old school version of social networking, speaking to people face to face. Now being in Hong Kong, my third favorite place in the world, I have access to all three.

I took a few pictures in China to highlight my days there.

Why draw by hand when you can peel and stick?

I'm not sure if it's the Chinese symbols but the packaging is far cooler than ours.

When translations go wrong, if it wasn't for the picture of the nails I imagine she would have a line of very confused men.

Found in one of our factories, I'm sure the Chinese version of this motivational sign sounded far more profound.

Hot pot, one of my favourite meals in China. I wish all food was served liked this. Depending on the region of China (the one I ate here being Shanghainese) you have a pot on the center of the table which of course is hot as the name implies. The pot contains boiling stock or water that you cook vegetables, tofu and meat in.

OOTD : The Great Outdoors

My first OOTD (outfit of the day). I found the quilted shirt in Topman, I will just say I work as a menswear designer so that justifies why I was hanging out in the mens department, and I love it! I like that woman's silhouettes are getting looser and mens are getting tighter. It means there's more departments to shop in and fit is not gender bias. I'm also really inspired by the whole outdoors thing that is trending right now, I recommend you google Japanese Yama girls.

Whenever I come back to London I try and collect UK music like a starved fly trap, I then take it back to the US with me and keep the same however many tracks on loop for months (annoying everyone) until I can come back and get some more.

I thought to mix it up a little I'd share a few with you.

Delilah - Love You So
She's been on the UK scene for a while and has been featured on some underground tracks. Love the retro clips in her video.

Jessie J - Who You Are
If I'm honest I'm not a huge fan of Jessie J, she's been trying to break America for a while now with limited success. As a vocalist I think she's yet to find her niche, however you can't say she doesn't have an amazing voice but who am I to judge! My friend told me about this video and I fell in love with it! Brace for goosebumps.

DIY Dip Dye part 2

I actually managed to successfully dip dye my hair using the tutorial I posted in December from The Beauty Department. The colour didn't come out exactly as I wanted but that's nothing a change of product can't take care of! I used a basic powder bleach and Jazzing semi perm dye in Fuchsia Pink and Black Cherry, as you can see from my picture below the results came out more red than pink. I still feel a little unsatisfied with the results, I was thinking of taking the plunge and going blonde. Watch this space!

This week I've left Miami to be home in England for Christmas. After eating as much of the food in England that I can't buy i the US (mini sausages, Ribena, Nandos you get the gist) I head straight to Primark to stock up. I brought a small collection of rings all under £2.50 and all are in store now.

Office Christmas Party Thrifting

So Friday we had a our office Christmas party in Hialeah which was conveniently located next to a Goodwill store. The good thing about a thrift store in Hialeah is that you are bound to find some rather colourful bits and pieces as the area is mostly Hispanic. As a rule of thumb I try and avoid intoxicated shopping ESPECIALLY when in a thrift store but after rolling out of the hall where the party was my friend and I just could resist. I woke up the next day cringing as I peeked into the bag to be pleasantly surprised at what I had picked out.

Definitely loving the jewelry and the knitted sweater with leather applique.

Joyner won her first medal in 1984 and then went on to win three gold, one silver and set two world records. She was known for wearing one - legged leotards and her 6 inch nails decorated in crazy patterns (proof that what goes around in fashion really does). I read that she use to do her friends nails in between seasons. Pretty unique 80's style icon.

I paid a brief visit to New York last week for Spring 13 trend research. While walking to an appointment I came across this vintage furniture store, being in a rush I missed the name but had to take some pictures. They had a vast collection of aged, oversized letters and a various array of furniture collected from over the years. I really liked the additional personal touch of the hand written price tags and the description of where the items have come from.

Chinese Nail Cleansing

Today I received, all the way from my friend in China, a miracle nail cleansing cream. Not only does it buff your natural nail but it removes your old polish without cotton pads or the acetone smell. Here's how it works.....

1. Find a willing test subject if you, like I, wear nail extensions.

2. Put a pea size amount of product on the nail and rub in like a cream.

3. Keep going until all of the polish vanishes and rinse with water. Viola!

I'm still unable to decide if this is Halloween gone one too far or the eyelashes are actually a good idea! I found this article in a Martha Stewart magazine I came across at the supermarket. I wasn't sure Martha Stewart was around but I guess she is.

I might try these for Halloween but find a suitable replacement for the actual Butterfly wings, I hadn't realized until I just posted this that the Butterfly wings are actually paper, I would also like to point out that neither did I think that they were REAL Butterfly wings! If anyone has any suggestions to where I can source something similar let me know.......

The BK Circus is by far one of my favorite streetwear brands and they're blog is definitely a good resource for inspirational imagery especially if you're interested in vintage findings.

Sneaker Con - Miami

Yesterday was my first US 'Sneaker' event. Sneaker Con, usually held in New York & Washington, came to Miami for the first time and played host to people selling and trading vintage and limited edition sneakers. Also at the event were a hand full of small local brands selling tees and vintage snap backs. Although the event was small it was good to see Sneaker Con come down to Miami and will be exciting to see how the event evolves.

I forgot to mention the candy booth that was also there! I had a sweet tooth for the rest of the day just thinking about the delicious candies they had on display!

I've been thinking of investing in an SLR camera for a while. My digital camera (that still takes AA batteries) just doesn't cut it anymore. There's only so many times you can drop these things on the floor or shower then in some kind of liquid beverage.

I particularly like these cameras because of the design appeal. My favorite is the mini camera but I feel this is more aesthetic rather than functional.
